Fawad and Anushka to play Karachiites in ADHM!
Fawad and Anushka to play Karachiites in ADHM!
Ever since we got to know that Fawad Khan’s screen time in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has been extended, we were eagerly waiting for more details.
KJo has confirmed that the upcoming film starring Anushka Sharma, Ranbir Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in key roles is not a conventional love story or a love triangle.
And now a source close to the film unit has revealed that Fawad and Anushka will be playing Pakistani lovebirds in the highly anticipated film.
“Anushka and Fawad are from Karachi, who meet each other in a foreign country. Fawad is a DJ while Anushka comes from a nawabi family,” Deccan Chronicle quoted a source as saying.
“The two fall in love abroad but once they come back to Karachi and Fawad approaches Anushka’s family to ask for her hand, he is ridiculed for belonging to a lower class… a bhand (jester or entertainer) by profession, and sent away… A dejected Anushka leaves her home too,” the source added.
But you will have to wait a little more to find out whether they have a happy or a sad ending. “You will have to watch the film to see whether they are united,”the source said.
Recently, Ranbir, Fawad and Anushka were spotted shooting together in Rajasthan.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is slated to release this Diwali.
India temple fire kills over 100 people watching fireworks
India temple fire kills over 100 people watching fireworks
NEW DELHI – A massive fire swept through a temple in southern India on Sunday, killing more than 100 people after thousands gathered to watch an illegal fireworks display.More than 280 others were injured in the fire that engulfed the Hindu temple complex in Kerala state, where crowds had built up during the night for a festival that boasted the fireworks show.Local residents were photographed carrying the bloodied and injured in their arms from the site, while a man whose bloodied hand was heavily bandaged was seen trying to calm a screaming toddler outside one hospital.A team of specialist doctors and medicines were being deployed from New Delhi to help with the disaster amid reports of horrific burns suffered by those caught in the blaze at the Puttingal Devi temple.
The navy and air force were also sending helicopters to evacuate the most critically injured, officials also said. “It has been confirmed that 102 people were killed and 280 injured and admitted to various hospitals. Now our focus is to provide the best treatment to the injured,” Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told reporters.Firefighters and police had battled through the night at the temple in the coastal town of Paravur to douse the fire and rescue those trapped at the complex.
Television footage showed a series of large explosions and fireworks erupting as plumes of smoke filled the night air after about 3am (2130 GMT Saturday). Concrete rubble and other debris was strewn at the complex at daybreak, while police examined large unexploded bundles of fireworks.Chandy said temple officials had gone ahead with the fireworks display despite being denied permission because of safety concerns. “That is correct. District collector of Kollam denied sanction for this fireworks (display),” Chandy said when asked whether permission had been given.
The Kerala government ordered an inquiry into the cause of the disaster. A local lawmaker said it occurred during a fireworks competition between two groups. One firework landed on a building that was storing the rest of the pyrotechnic material, setting off a chain reaction.“It has happened after 75 per cent of the fireworks were (already) burst. It was actually fortunate, otherwise the casualties would have been much, much, much more,” NK Premachandran, state MP for Kollam district where the accident occurred, told the NDTV network.
The chief doctor at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College in the state capital said some of those pouring into the hospital had suffered serious injuries “and many would require amputation” of limbs.“Many have sustained burns of over 50 per cent and the condition of some of them is quite serious,” D Mohandas told the Hindu newspaper. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was flying to the scene, announcing 200,000 rupees ($3,005) in compensation for the families of those killed and 50,000 rupees for those injured.
“Fire at temple in Kollam is heart-rending & shocking beyond words,” Modi tweeted. “Arranging for immediate shifting of those critically injured via helicopter.”Navy spokesperson DK Sharma said the helicopters would transport the injured to Thiruvananthapuram and also to the city of Kochi where the navy operates a hospital, with some of the injured currently being treated at small local medical centres.
Fires and stampedes are not uncommon at temples and during religious occasions, often because of poor security arrangements and lax safety standards. Several thousand people had gathered at the temple for the fireworks show which is held every year at the temple, an official said. The fire comes as Kerala — governed by the Congress party, which is in opposition at national level — heads to the polls in one of five state elections being held in India this month and next. The people and the government of Pakistan express their deep condolences on the loss of precious live s, resulting from fire breakout in the temple in South Kerala, India.“Our sympathies are with the bereaved families. We wish early recovery to all injured people,” a statement released by the Foreign Office spokesperson said.
Dubai plans tower even higher than Burj Khalifa
Dubai plans tower even higher than Burj Khalifa
Burj Khalifa, the world’s highest skyscraper, dominates Dubai at a height of 828 meters. But this is to change in the coming years. The municipality of Dubai has unveiled the design of an even higher tower, the Dubai Creek Harbour.
The building, which will cost around 877 million euros to build, will be “slightly higher” than Burj Khalifa, says Mohamed Alabbar, Chairman of the Emaar real estate group that will direct and finance the project.
Alabbar says the exact height of the Dubai Creek Harbour tower will be announced at a later date, at the conclusion of the work. The building is expected to be finished before Expo 2020, for which Dubai expects to receive more than 20 million visitors.
The tower, designed by the Spanish-Swiss architects Santiago Calatrava, was picked from a shortlist of five. The final was inspired by the lily flower and evokes the image of a minaret, a distinctive symbol of Islamic culture.
The building will be connected to the ground with sturdy cables inspired by the delicate ribs of the lily leaf. The cable matrix will give “the structure its strength, firmly anchoring it to the ground with technical precision using the materials according to the most modern engineering studies”, says Calatrava.
The design of the structure may put at risk the official recognition of the Creek Harbour tower as the “highest building in the world”. Unlike Burj Khalifa, the new Dubai facility will not integrate residences or offices into the structure.
There will be room for hotels, boutiques and it will have multiple viewing platforms and recreational activities overlooking a wholly new city.
The Emaar real estate group says the construction will be the centerpiece of the redevelopment of the Dubai Creek in the heart of the old Dubai.
Emaar claims to have sufficient resources to finance the project, most probably 50% by stocks and 50% in loans.
As it stands, the Burj Khalifa will be “overtaken”, in 2020, by the Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, which is planned to be more than one kilometer high.
Pakistan army says India violates ceasefire, fires shells
Pakistan army says India violates ceasefire, fires shells
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan army said todaythat the Indian troops have fired shells into its side of the Line of Control that separate the two countries in the disputed Kashmir region. No one was hurt in the shelling that occurred after a lull of weeks on the LoC. “Indian troops on the line of Control resorted to heavy unprovoked firing and shelling in Neza Pir sector last night,” an army statement said. “Unprovoked firing which started at 2340 hrs last night lasted till 0445 hrs early morning,” a statement from the inter-Services Public Relations said.
“Pakistan Army troops befittingly responded to Indian unprovoked firing and shelling. No loss reported so far,” the army said. Pakistan and India had declared ceasefire in 2003 and the guns had relatively been silent since then. However, both sides occasionally exchange fire. The latest incident comes at a time when relations are tense since a group of gunmen attacked an Indian airbase in January. India had blamed “Jaish-e-Muhammad” group for the attack and has demanded action against the group.
On its part Pakistan has detained the group’s chief, Maulana Masood Azhar, and also sealed some of his religious school. Pakistani authorities have registered a case against unknown people about the attack and sent a team to India as part of its own investigations into the attack. Last month Pakistan said its security officials have arrested an Indian agent in Balochistan province who the gov’t says was involved.
RAW blatantly involved in destabilising Pakistan: Gen Raheel Sharif
RAW blatantly involved in destabilising Pakistan: Gen Raheel
ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif said on Tuesday that the India’s premier spy agency was blatantly involved in destabilising Pakistan as well as and the multibillion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
“Hostile intelligence agencies averse to this grand project [CPEC], especially Indian intelligence agency RAW [Research and Analysis Wing] which is blatantly involved in destabilising Pakistan,” the COAS was cited as saying at the seminar titled, Peace and Prosperity in Balochistan and CPEC, held in Gwadar.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief said he would not leave any stone unturned to make the economic corridor a regional success.
“As COAS, I assure you security of CPEC which is our national undertaking. We won’t leave any stone unturned and continue to close watch at every step,” he added.
General Raheel assured the CPEC project will go as planned no matter what it takes as it is a reflection of all-weather Pakistan-China ties. “CPEC, a reflection of Pak-China friendship, will be truly realised whatever it takes. This year we will move cargo from China to Gwadar and beyond.”
Transparency and good management are important factors for the success of CPEC, and that socio-economic justice will increase the masses’ stake in the national unity, he added.
Zarb-e-Azb in final stages
Speaking about the continuing offensive against militants in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), the army chief said the Operation Zarb-e-Azb is now in its final stages, and Pakistan has come a long way in its fight against terrorism to pave the way for stability.
He urged the international community to not only acknowledge the sacrifices made by the Pakistan Army against terrorism but also help the country block external aid for terrorist organisations, their financers and abettors.
“Operation Zarb-e-Azb [is] not only an operation but wholesome concept. [It] aims at breaking the syndicate of terrorism, extremism and corruption,” Gen Raheel said.
Gwadar port to be operational by 2017: Chinese official
Gwadar port to be operational by 2017: Chinese official
A multi-million dollar port being developed by China in Pakistan is set to be at “full operation” by the end of the year, a Chinese official said Tuesday, part of Beijing’s ambitious economic plans in the region.
Gwadar port, on Pakistan’s southwest coast, will see roughly one million tonnes of cargo going through it by 2017, said Zhang Baozhong, chairman of the Chinese public company in charge of the development.
Current trade there is “basically nothing”, he told reporters on the sidelines of a seminar about the port’s development Tuesday.
“We hope a big jump will take place… Our dream is to make Gwadar a regional trading centre,” he said.
Gwadar, in Balochistan province, forms what officials call the “heart” of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, a grand $46 billion project giving Beijing greater access to the Middle East, Africa and Europe through Pakistan.
The port was built in 2007 with technical help from Beijing as well as Chinese financial assistance of about $248 million.
Zhang said the tonnage will initially comprise “quite a number” of construction materials for the city’s development, which Pakistani officials envision turning into another Dubai.
Exports will at first focus on the local fishing industry, he said, with a modern processing plant planned for the area, though he would not give a timeline for the plant.
“We shall try to process it here… So that the locals can benefit,” he told reporters after the seminar.
Desperately poor Balochistan has been roiled since 2004 by a separatist insurgency aimed at seeking greater control over the province’s resources.
Some Baloch nationalists have accused the Chinese of conspiring with the Pakistani elite to plunder the province while doing little to share profits and create jobs for local people
China expresses anger at G7 statement on East, South China Seas
China expresses anger at G7 statement on East, South China Seas
China’s expressed anger on Tuesday after foreign ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) advanced economies said they strongly opposed provocation in the East and South China Seas, where China is locked in territorial disputes.
“We urge the G7 member states to honor their commitment of not taking sides on issues involving territorial disputes,” China’s foreign ministry said in a statement.
The G7 should focus on global economic governance and cooperation against the backdrop of weak economic growth rather than hyping up disputes and provoking problems, it added.
On Monday, G7 foreign ministers said after meeting in the Japanese city of Hiroshima that they opposed “any intimidating coercive or provocative unilateral actions that could alter the status quo and increase tensions” in the East and South China Seas.
China claims almost the entire South China Sea, believed to have huge deposits of oil and gas, and is building islands on reefs to bolster its claims. Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam also have claims to parts of the waters, through which about $5 trillion in trade is shipped every year.
China also has a separate dispute with Japan over a group of uninhabited islets in the East China Sea.
China has every right to build on the Spratly Islands and there are no problems with freedom of navigation and overflight for the East and South China Seas, the foreign ministry said.
China is committed to resolving disputes through talks with countries directly involved via international law and on the basis of respecting historical facts, to maintain peace and stability while safeguarding its sovereignty, it said.
It repeated that China will neither accept nor participate in any arbitration “illegally forced upon it”, a reference to a case lodged by the Philippines against China.
“We urge the G7 member states to fully respect the efforts made by countries in the region, stop making irresponsible remarks and all irresponsible actions, and truly play a constructive role for regional peace and stability,” the ministry added.
Afghan Taliban announces start of spring offensive
Afghan Taliban announces start of spring offensive
KABUL: The Taliban announced the start of their spring offensive on Tuesday, pledging to launch large-scale offensives against government strongholds backed by suicide and guerrilla attacks to drive Afghanistan’s Western-backed government from power.
The announcement of the formal start of “Operation Omari”, named after the late Taliban founder Mullah Mohammad Omar, comes just days after Secretary of State John Kerry visited Kabul and reaffirmed US support for the national unity government led by President Ashraf Ghani.
“Jihad against the aggressive and usurping infidel army is a holy obligation upon our necks and our only recourse for reestablishing an Islamic system and regaining our independence,” the Taliban said in a statement.
The insurgency has gained in strength since the withdrawal of international troops from combat at the end of 2014 and the Taliban are stronger than at any point since they were driven from power by U.S.-backed forces in 2001.
As well as suicide and tactical attacks, the operation would include assassinations of enemy commanders in urban centres, the Taliban statement said.
“The present Operation will also employ all means at our disposal to bog the enemy down in a war of attrition that lowers the morale of the foreign invaders and their internal armed militias,” it said.
In line with recent statements, it also said it would establish good governance in areas it controlled as well as avoiding civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure.
How far the announcement will lead to an immediate escalation in fighting, which caused 11,000 civilian casualties last year, remains unclear. However, NATO and Afghan officials have said they expect very tough combat in 2016.
Heavy fighting has continued for months across Afghanistan, from Kunduz, the northern city that fell briefly to the insurgents last year, to Helmand province bordering Pakistan in the south.
In Helmand, where thousands of British and American troops were killed or injured fighting the Taliban, government forces have pulled back from many areas and are struggling to hold on to centres close to the provincial capital, Lashkar Gah.
Understrength Afghan security forces, struggling with heavy casualties and high desertion rates and short of air power, transport and logistical support, have struggled in their first year fighting largely alone.
According to NATO commanders, the Taliban exerts control over only six percent of Afghanistan but up to a third of the country is at risk from the insurgents and government forces control no more than 70 percent of the country’s territory.
US General John Nicholson, who took over as commander of international troops in Afghanistan last month, is conducting a strategic review, including plans to cut US troops in Afghanistan from 9,800 to 5,500 by the end of the year.
Unless the plan is changed, the reduction would mean the end of most of NATO’s training and assistance operation, leaving the remaining US troops focusing on counterterrorism operations against radical groups like Daesh.
